How it work?

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Technology

Zerust® Technology Solutions

Zerust® corrosion engineers go beyond VCI technology by offering a comprehensive system called Integrated Corrosion Technologies (ICT®). ICT® is our term for the various material and chemical sciences that comprise our Zerust® packaging product system including VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) technology. Depending on the corrosion protection requirements and economic targets, Zerust® products can be designed in one or more of the following combinations to provide the optimum corrosion protection system.

What are Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors?

Vapor corrosion inhibitors (VCIs) are substances that slowly release a corrosion preventative compound into a sealed air space, effectively protecting exposed metal surfaces. VCIs are often used in situations where it is impractical or undesired to use rust preventative liquids or other surface treatments.

How do Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors work?

The compounds that VCIs release into an airspace actively prevent corrosion by forming strong bonds with a metal surface, promoting and maintaining the natural and healthy passive oxide layer on the metal. The VCI layer that forms is invisible, dry, and does not affect the physical properties or functionality of the metal in any way. The protected metal can be painted, treated, and/or used straight out of the Zerust® package without further cleaning.

Zerust’s Top (VCI) Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Products:

Zerust®/Excor® offers a wide range of products and solutions to solve corrosion issues:

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Packaging Film

Zerust® VCI packaging films are available in many stock and custom options. VCI Film comes in a range of sizes and MIL thicknesses and can be made in VCI plastic sheets, tubing, J-sheeting, and c-fold sheeting. Some stock bag options are flat VCI bags, zipper bags, and VCI gusset liners. A range of metal protection types are available as well as acid-gas scavenging technology and additives such as ESD and UV protection can be incorporated.

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Emitters and Diffusers

VCI Emitters (also known as VCI diffusers) provide targeted corrosion protection in hard-to-reach enclosed spaces or can be used as added protection to Zerust® VCI packaging products. VCI Emitters emit powerful Zerust® corrosion inhibiting molecules into an enclosure that settle on metal surfaces and protect them from corrosion. They are safe for electronics, odorless*, non-toxic*, residue-free, and are designed to work in restricted spaces.

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Paper

Zerust® carries and produces a wide range of corrosion inhibiting filmskraft papersVCI bags, and VCI sheeting technologies. Zerust® VCI Paper packaging products are acid-free, pH neutral, and are sourced from responsibly managed forests. They are produced in the USA without bleaching agents and in facilities powered with renewable energy. Your customer service representative can help recommend the ideal packaging solution for your application needs.

Physical material design and selection

The Zerust® team will help you select the most optimum packaging material and design to meet your corrosion protection needs. The material may vary from barrier film, such as aluminum, to regular low-density polyethylene depending on economic targets and performance requirements.

Chemical scavenging technology

Depending on the corrosiveness of the environment, the Zerust® team may also incorporate our patented chemical scavenging technology into the selected base packaging material to neutralize any acid gases and prevent them from coming in contact with metal components sealed inside the package.
